From late September to mid-October 2023, the Yingtianmen Site Museum hosted a unique exhibition: the “Effective Inheritance, Shared Intangible Cultural Heritage” Joint Exhibition on Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture.

This exhibition is spearheaded by Guo Jiayi, the representative inheritor of the national-level intangible cultural heritage project “Pingle Guo’s Orthopedic Manipulation Technique,” and jointly organized by Luoyang Orthopedic Hospital of Henan Province (Henan Provincial Orthopedic Hospital), the Longmen Grottoes Research Institute, the Yingtianmen Site Museum, and renowned calligraphy groups such as Yueya Jiyu. It is undertaken by the Heluo National Medicine Culture Research Institute of Luoyang City.

This is a collaborative exhibition brought to life by leading cultural institutions, working in unison to present visitors with an innovative, artistic, and vibrant world of traditional Chinese medicine culture.

The exhibition uses traditional Chinese medicine “prescriptions” as its entry point to showcase the allure of TCM culture. Visitors will encounter a variety of artistic works created through diverse techniques that reinterpret TCM prescriptions, as well as unique, innovative, and interdisciplinary artworks. In addition, the exhibition will feature reproductions of manuscripts by renowned physicians and masters.

As the representative inheritor of the national-level intangible cultural heritage project “Pingle Guo’s Orthopedic Manipulation Technique” and the lead organizer of this exhibition, Dean Guo Jiayi harbors a profound passion for and unwavering commitment to traditional Chinese medicine culture. She believes that TCM is not only the quintessence of Chinese culture but also a treasured gem of world culture; accordingly, she has consistently dedicated herself to promoting and preserving TCM culture.

She hopes that, through this exhibition, more people will gain a deeper understanding of traditional Chinese medicine culture and become more attentive to daily health maintenance and wellness, thereby enhancing their health literacy.

From the initial concept in May to its official unveiling this September, Dean Guo Jiayi has organized numerous workshops and creative meetings involving all relevant parties, engaging in repeated discussions, exchanges, and refinements with experts from various fields to refine both the conceptual framework and the implementation plan—ultimately bringing the project to fruition. It is safe to say that without her spirit of innovation and sense of responsibility, this exhibition would lack the vitality, contemporary relevance, and originality that define its presentation.

“The Inheritance Has Its Way: Sharing Intangible Cultural Heritage” joint exhibition of traditional Chinese medicine culture is not only a grand celebration of TCM culture, but also a testament to the cultural commitment, cultural confidence, and cultural self-reliance of the people of Heluo who uphold TCM culture. Through this exhibition, we can not only appreciate the charm of TCM, but also deeply experience the profound depth and richness of Chinese culture.

Welcome to the Yingtianmen Site Museum to explore the exhibition and together open the grand gateway to the culture of traditional Chinese medicine.
