Guo Jiayi, as a representative of intangible cultural heritage in the field of traditional medicine, was invited to attend the 2023 World Conference of Intangible Cultural Heritage Practitioners.

On the afternoon of September 6, 2023, the 2023 World Conference of Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritors was held at the National Convention Center in Beijing, where Guo Jiayi, the representative inheritor of the national-level intangible cultural heritage project “Pingle Guo’s Orthopedic Manipulation Technique,” attended as an invited guest.

At the meeting, the relevant leaders in attendance delivered opening keynote speeches, expressing their hopes and visions for the global cause of intangible cultural heritage preservation.

 

 

Guo Jiayi, as a representative of intangible cultural heritage in the field of traditional medicine, took to the stage to deliver a speech and also participated in the discussion at the Forum on the Chinese Path to Modernization of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Drawing on her cultural confidence, cultural awareness, and sense of cultural responsibility as a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine, she shared her reflections on the path of inheriting and passing down intangible cultural heritage in the field of traditional medicine, while also affirming the vast potential for the internationalization of TCM.

At the meeting, she began by presenting to the guests and audience the status and development history of the Pingle Guo School of Orthopedic Manipulation. She also noted that traditional medicine-related items occupy a unique position within the category of intangible cultural heritage, representing a profound and philosophically rich aspect of traditional culture.

Traditional Chinese medicine culture belongs to China and to the world; it is both inclusive and open. The principles it champions—such as balance and harmony, and the unity of heaven and humanity—are not only applicable to human health and well-being, but also to environmental protection, social harmony, and many other fields. In his report to the 20th National Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized the need to “promote the inheritance, innovation, and development of traditional Chinese medicine and to facilitate international exchanges and cooperation in this field.” The Chinese government has consistently taken proactive measures to advance the internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine.

 

 

Currently, traditional Chinese medicine culture has spread to 196 countries and regions worldwide, becoming a healthcare approach that is widely accepted and cherished by people around the globe. In China’s exchanges and cooperation with countries along the Belt and Road, traditional Chinese medicine culture has emerged as one of the key areas of collaboration.

Many international academic organizations, such as the International Society of Acupuncture and the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, are also committed to promoting academic exchanges and collaborative research on traditional Chinese medicine culture.

The internationalization of traditional Chinese medicine has become both a trend and an inevitability. It is believed that in the future, this process will continue to deepen, and TCM culture will serve the health and well-being of all humanity.

 

 

At the conclusion of the conference, Pan Zhenzhou, former Deputy Minister of Culture, together with ambassadors from various countries, presented certificates to Guo Jiayi and others. Following the event, Pan Zhenzhou expressed his concern for intangible cultural heritage in the field of traditional medicine, urging Guo Jiayi to continue her efforts in preserving and promoting the intangible heritage of Chinese medicine and in further advancing its internationalization.
