“Fatherly Love Is Like a Mountain—Honoring Health”: A Special Father’s Day Volunteer Service Is Here!

In Zhu Ziqing’s classic essay “The Back Shadow,” there is the following passage describing his father—

“My father is a stout man; it’s only natural that crossing the tracks would be somewhat troublesome for him. I had intended to go myself, but he wouldn’t let me, so I had no choice but to let him go. I saw him wearing a small black cloth cap, a long black cloth gown, and a dark-blue cotton robe. He walked haltingly to the edge of the railway track, then slowly leaned down—this was still not too difficult. But when he had to cross the tracks and climb up onto the platform on the other side, it became much harder. He grasped the edge with both hands and pulled his feet up; his stout body tilted slightly to the left, as if straining with all his might. At that moment, I caught sight of his back, and tears immediately began to stream down my face.”

 

Back in our youth, we used to stand on our father’s shoulders to pluck the stars.

Now that we’ve grown up and are hustling and striving in the adult world, have we ever stopped to wonder when those broad, strong arms and that sturdy back of our father’s from childhood began to grow thin and hunched?

Zhu Ziqing gazed at his father’s unsteady, stooped figure and silently shed tears, for his father was growing old.

 

Fatherly love is as steadfast as a mountain—yet it, too, is silent. Our love for our fathers is reserved and restrained.

On Father’s Day, the intangible cultural heritage “Pingle Guo’s Orthopedic Manipulation” organized a volunteer service event titled “Fatherly Love Is Like a Mountain—Honoring Health,” bringing its services to villages and reaching out to the silent generation of fathers. Through free orthopedic consultations and traditional Chinese medicine education, the initiative pays tribute to fathers’ ordinary yet extraordinary lives and shows care for their bodies, which are no longer as strong as they once were.

Time: 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 15, 2023

Location: Zhouzhai Village, Fudian Town, Yanshi District, Luoyang City

Volunteer service offerings: free medical consultations, blood pressure measurements, ear acupressure with seeds, and topical medicated patches provided as needed.
