On the morning of the 25th, despite rainy weather, the “Caring for the Elderly, Warming Their Golden Years” volunteer service event—focused on the intangible cultural heritage of Pingle Guo’s Bone-Setting Technique and dedicated to promoting the physical health of senior citizens—was held as scheduled in the Hengda Hengdong Community.

The actions may be small, but the compassion is immense; a single event is easy to organize, yet sustained commitment is no small feat. This marks the third free medical outreach initiative launched by the intangible cultural heritage of Pingle Guo’s Orthopedic Therapy since late April. The primary focus of these activities is to care for the physical health of elderly individuals. Moving forward, we will extend our services to enterprises, rural communities, and other settings, tailoring our outreach to meet the specific needs of different population groups. In doing so, we aim not only to carry forward this invaluable intangible cultural heritage but also to promote a healthy and fulfilling way of life.

Despite the rain, many elderly people were already lining up before 9 a.m.

During this free medical consultation, in addition to on-site consultations by specialist doctors, professional nurses also provided free services such as blood pressure measurements, topical medicated patches, and ear acupressure with seeds. They engaged in warm, caring interactions with the elderly and patiently explained everyday health-care tips to help them maintain their well-being.

Among the elderly present at the scene was a particularly remarkable grandfather, who is 91 years old but looks no older than seventy. He is in robust health, speaks with humble grace, and exudes an unusual vitality. He shared that he rises at five every morning to do his morning exercises in the park, returning home around seven to prepare and enjoy his meal. He insists on handling his own affairs, avoiding any unnecessary trouble for his children—both to keep himself happy and to allow them to focus on their own pursuits with peace of mind. His manner and speech are marked by profound elegance, inspiring deep respect.

This grandfather has set an inspiring example for the elderly present. The secret to slowing down aging lies in staying active, keeping your mind engaged, taking initiative, and embracing and savoring life. Of course, given the natural decline of bodily functions and the loosening of bones that comes with age, it’s crucial to approach exercise in a scientific and well-structured way—so that it truly nourishes and strengthens the body, rather than causing further harm.

The bone-nourishing exercises of the Pingle Guo School of Orthopedic Manipulation, a form of intangible cultural heritage, have been meticulously developed by leading experts specifically to address the needs of everyday bodily care. These exercises systematically correct and nurture key areas of the body, enabling practitioners to strengthen their health and vitality through movement.

No matter what age we are, we should all take this grandfather as an example: get moving and start exercising. If you don’t have the time or the energy, just carve out a few minutes to practice this bone-strengthening exercise routine. At the very least, let’s get started on the path to better health.

The free clinic is ongoing—please stay tuned!
