On “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” 2023, here we are!

In late May 2023, the Luoyang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television and Tourism issued a notice regarding participation in the main venue event for the 2023 Henan Province “Cultural and Natural Heritage Day” intangible cultural heritage publicity and exhibition, announcing that the national-level intangible cultural heritage “Pingle Guo’s Orthopedic Manipulation Technique” would travel to Nanyang on June 10 to take part in the exhibition.

This event is hosted by the Henan Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism and the Nanyang Municipal People’s Government, and organized by the Henan Provincial Center for the Protection and Digitalization of Intangible Cultural Heritage, the Henan Provincial Cultural Center, and the Nanyang Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Television, and Tourism. Its aim is to further enhance public awareness of intangible cultural heritage protection, carry forward and promote China’s fine traditional culture, and foster a positive social environment for ICH preservation. Centered on revitalizing and expanding consumption, supporting rural revitalization, and ensuring that the achievements of ICH protection benefit more members of the public, the event features the “Henan Province ICH Shopping Festival.”

In response to the government’s call, the national-level intangible cultural heritage “Pingle Guo School Bone-Setting Technique” will participate in the event under the theme “Effective Inheritance, Sustainable Development.” On-site, Professor Guo Yanxing, the seventh-generation inheritor, will lead a team in providing free medical consultations to the public while promoting traditional Chinese medicine culture and sharing practical knowledge on daily bone-care practices.

With proper methods of transmission, intangible cultural heritage belongs to everyone; in particular, intangible cultural heritage related to traditional medicine is fundamentally preserved and passed down precisely because of its practical benefits and real-world significance for the general public. The intangible cultural heritage “PingLe Guo’s Orthopedic Manipulation Technique,” passed down from the Qing Dynasty to the present day, has always been guided by the principles of sincere dedication and prioritizing therapeutic efficacy, steadfastly striving to promote the well-being of the people and ensure that its benefits are shared by all.
