Mao Tiandong, male, is a native of Yiyang County, Henan Province. In 1959, he was admitted to the undergraduate program at the former Henan Pingle Orthopedic College. He is a chief physician of traditional Chinese medicine and one of the third batch of nationally renowned senior TCM mentors as well as one of the first cohort of national experts in the inheritance of renowned senior TCM practitioners.

In his early years, he studied under Gao Yunfeng, the fifth-generation descendant of the PingLe Guo School of Orthopedics, and thoroughly mastered the school’s authentic techniques in manual therapy for injury treatment and syndrome differentiation-based pharmacotherapy.

With more than 50 years of experience in clinical practice, teaching, and research in traditional Chinese orthopedics, Dr. [Name] is known for rigorous scholarship and exceptional clinical skills. He has developed unique expertise in the syndrome differentiation and individualized treatment of soft-tissue injuries, rheumatic diseases, and pain syndromes affecting the neck, shoulders, lower back, and extremities. In particular, he has achieved profound insights into challenging orthopedic conditions such as delayed union and nonunion of fractures, senile knee osteoarthritis, and synovitis, as well as complex fractures and dislocations and periarticular fractures. He is highly proficient in manual therapy for various types of fractures and dislocations.

From examining the cultural foundations and evolutionary transmission of this tradition to synthesizing its theoretical principles, systematizing its therapeutic protocols, classifying its manual techniques, adapting its fixed forms, and developing disease-specific prescriptions, he has poured his life’s work into these endeavors and reaped abundant rewards. He has published more than 20 scholarly papers, achieved four significant research outcomes, and authored a monograph.
