Wen Shanle, male, born in 1929, Chief Physician.

A nationally renowned expert in traditional Chinese medicine orthopedics and traumatology, he is among the second cohort of distinguished senior TCM physicians certified by the State Personnel Department, the Ministry of Health, and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine as qualified to mentor apprentices. He has served as a member of the editorial board of the journal “Traditional Chinese Orthopedic Manipulation,” a director of the National Society of External Fixation in Orthopedics, and a consultant to the Henan Provincial Hospital of Rheumatic Diseases. He is a member of the Chinese Medical Association and the Chinese Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine. In 1997, he was awarded the “Special Contribution Award for Outstanding Achievements in the Development of TCM” by the Henan Provincial Health Department and the Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and in June 2008, he received the “Lifetime Achievement Award for Contributions to TCM in Henan” from the Henan Provincial Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Over the years, he has been repeatedly recognized as an outstanding Communist Party member of the hospital.

In his early years, Wen Shanle studied at the Henan Pingle Orthopedic College, where he was meticulously trained and mentored by the renowned Chinese orthopedic expert, President Gao Yunfeng. Upon graduation, he remained at the institution, distinguished by his outstanding academic performance. Over six decades of medical practice, he has worked with unwavering dedication, pursued rigorous scholarly inquiry, and steadily accumulated experience, developing a profound theoretical foundation and extensive clinical expertise. He excels in both the traditional Chinese medicine techniques of reduction and syndrome-differentiated pharmacotherapy, as well as in the modern medical diagnosis and treatment of bone injuries, bone diseases, and orthopedic corrective surgery. In particular, he has unique insights into the diagnosis and management of intra-articular and periarticular injuries. Committed to nurturing young professionals, he has tirelessly imparted knowledge, consistently serving as a lecturer and preceptor for various continuing education programs, associate-degree courses, and individual foreign trainees at the hospital. To this end, he has produced three sets of instructional slides. In 2007, one of his protégés was awarded the “First National Outstanding Apprenticeship Award in Traditional Chinese Medicine” by the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, as well as the title of “Distinguished Teacher,” thereby recognizing his exemplary mentorship. Through his efforts, he has cultivated a large number of new talents for the field of orthopedics in China.

Over several decades in practice, he has received four provincial- and ministerial-level scientific and technological achievement awards. He has published eight monographs, including “Wrist Joint Injuries,” “Elbow Joint Injuries,” “Talus and Surrounding Related Injuries,” “Diagnosis and Treatment of Wrist Injuries,” “Medical Research, Scientific Papers, and Academic Integrity,” “Collected Papers,” “Memories of Years Past,” and its sequel. He has also authored more than 70 peer-reviewed articles published in leading medical journals such as “Chinese Journal of Orthopaedics,” “Chinese Journal of Surgery,” “Chinese Journal of Traumatology,” “Bone and Joint Injuries,” “Traditional Chinese Medicine in Orthopedics,” and “Chinese Journal of Bone and Injury,” with some of these papers included in the anthology “Clinical Cases of Renowned Physicians.”
