Guo Jiayi, the eighth-generation inheritor of the PingLe Guo School of Orthopedics, has been appointed as a planner for New-Era Civilizational Practice Activities.

On the evening of June 30, Guo Jiayi, the eighth-generation inheritor of the PingLe Guo School of Orthopedics, was invited to attend the launch ceremony of the 2022 “The Light of Civilization Shines on Chanhe—Cultural Benefits for the People, Fostering New Trends” new-era civic practice thematic event in Chanhe District. During the ceremony, Jiao Yuanpeng, Deputy Director of the Publicity Department of the Luoyang Municipal Party Committee and Director of the Municipal Office for Civilized Conduct, presented appointment letters to Guo Jiayi and nine other representatives serving as “planners” for the new-era civic practice activities.

To closely align with the needs of the community, Chanhe District has vigorously promoted cultural outreach initiatives in neighborhoods, engaging arts and literature experts as planners for New-Era Civilizational Practice Activities. The district is committed to fully leveraging the role of these activities and enhancing the quality of cultural event organization and planning.

Guo Jiayi is the representative inheritor of the national-level intangible cultural heritage “Pingle Guo’s Orthopedic Manipulation Technique,” the eighth-generation descendant of the Pingle Guo school of orthopedics, and a recipient of the fifth batch of the National Program for Inheriting the Academic Experience of Senior Traditional Chinese Medicine Experts. She has published more than 60 academic papers, authored 23 books, received 15 science and technology achievement awards at or above the prefectural and departmental levels, obtained one national invention patent and 13 utility model patents, and served as principal investigator or participant in 18 research projects at or above the departmental level.

Guo Jiayi has dedicated thirty years to teaching, research, and clinical practice in traditional Chinese medicine orthopedics and traumatology. From an early age, she studied under Professor Guo Weihuai, the sixth-generation inheritor of the Pingle Guo School of Bone-setting (her grandfather), and Professor Guo Yansi, the seventh-generation inheritor (her mother). She subsequently apprenticed under Professors Guo Yanjin and Guo Yanxing, as well as National Master of Traditional Chinese Medicine Professor Wei Guikang, thereby thoroughly mastering the authentic techniques of the Pingle Guo School of Bone-setting. With a solid theoretical foundation and extensive clinical experience, she has, guided by the Pingle Guo School’s theory of balance in bone-setting, developed the “Pingle Guo School Theory of Bone-Nourishing Therapy and Its Prevention-and-Treatment System.” She stated that, upon being appointed as a planner for new-era civic-civilization practice activities, she will certainly contribute her part to the development of new-era civic-civilization initiatives in Chanhe District.

Introduction to Guo Jiayi

Guo Jiayi is a female member of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, a chief physician of traditional Chinese medicine, a master’s supervisor, and the representative inheritor of the national-level intangible cultural heritage “Pingle Guo School Bone-Setting Technique,” as well as the eighth-generation inheritor of this tradition. She currently serves as the Director of the Center for Research and Treatment of Non-Surgical Therapies for Osteoarticular Diseases at the Luoyang Orthopedic Hospital of Henan Province (Henan Provincial Orthopedic Hospital), Director of the Pingle Bone-Setting Research Laboratory, Head of the National Inheriting Studio for the Pingle Guo School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Vice Chairperson of the Orthopedics and Traumatology Branch of the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Vice President of the Specialty Committee on Osteoarticular Diseases of the World Federation of Chinese Medicine Societies, Vice Chairperson of the Joint Committee on Orthopedics and Traumatology of the China Association for the Promotion of Research in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Vice Chairperson of the Health Management Branch of the Henan Medical Association, Executive Vice Chairperson of the World Alliance for Manual Medicine, Executive Committee Member of the Academic School Inheritance Branch of the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Executive Council Member of the Ultrasound Medicine Branch of the China Association for Information in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Executive Committee Member of the Preventive Treatment Branch of the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Executive Committee Member of the Subhealth Branch of the China Association of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Deputy Chairperson of the Luoyang Municipal Committee of the China Association for Promoting Democracy, Vice Chairperson of the CPPCC Committee of the Chanhe Hui Autonomous District of Luoyang City, and a Member of the Standing Committee of the Luoyang Municipal People’s Congress.
